Putins AD Vance helped by JD

Goodness me, already the 2025 blog content is focusing on Donald Trump again. There is an expression used up North,  'Always the victim, never the blame' and I suspect that might just have crept into the presidential word bank, goodness me there is enough room for it.

Was Zelensky ambushed, or did he just misread the situation? US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, implied that the 30 minute exchange behoind closed doors did not go well and that Zelensky was the blame. Then Brian Glenn, a white House correspondent highlighted Zelensky's combat clothing as being disrestectful. Does he not do his research very thoroughly? If he did he might have found this.

Trump is a bully pure and simply, surrounded by likeminded people, many of whom  are on the Worlld stage for the first time. They are used to getting their own way and so the rest of the World are in for a rocky time in the short term. Maybe the Saudi's or Isreali's could advise on how to make people disappear?

Putin will be delighted to be Trump's new best friend and must already be working out how the Ukrainian Earth minerals can be divided up. Hold on to your hats we are in for a bumpy ride.

Trumpton

One consistency during our Caribbean adventure was the unanimous loathing the Americans have for their new President. He would almost seem like a US equivalent of Enoch Powell, the Midland MP who would gain support for his controversial policies by preaching to the less intelligent members of society who were easily led.

Trump is clearly targeting the'good old boys', rednecks and others of a similar outlook to fuel his radical approach to changing the World. His pardoning of the Senate rioters looks like it will set the scene.

There may be trouble ahead!

The final whistle

So a fairly sporty week draws to a close.

I was talked into attending the England v Ireland rugby at Twickenham last weekend, as my S Club chums had finally agreed that Twickenham was not an experience targetted at 70 year old rugby follower, and that we should all have one last hurrah! To be fair, we could not have gone out in a more majestic way as England turned up for once and grabbed a famous victory right at the end.

I travelled to London and back in the day which worked well. It is still a bit of a lottery when one has no idea whether Avanti will cancel the trains or not. Our new strategy to follow the England U20 team and some of the Champions Cup rugby next season should see us in charge of our travel arrangements a little bit more.

During this week I travelled to Scotland to play in a 'Hole in One' competition at Turnberry Hotel. While the complex is owned by the Trump organisation, it is interesting that none of the merchandise is endorsed with the Trump name or logo as it was seen as a put off to people buying!!

I have just had to do a zero star rating on  Trip Advisor for the golf however, as they refused to close the course, which was waterlogged, and forced us to go out and play in conditions which were totally unreasonable. Clearly the did not want to give refunds or rain cheques and consequently lose revenue. For us it spoilt the trip and left a bad taste in the mouth. I am unlikely to return while it remains in its current ownership.

The week concluded with some disappointing football results, and another spirited display by England who had another late victory snatched from them by a marginal penalty decision from the same referee who did not exactly cover himself in glory at the rugby World Cup earlier in the year.

Hey ho, at least the England management team have brought themselves some  more time to try and produce a team who can consistently compete at the top level of the game. Every cloud has a silver lining, and the improvement of the Italian team who consigned the Welsh to the wooden spoon is something to behold.

Bronzed bodies

Well, the England team did as well as could be expected against a more experienced European outfit. I can't help comparing it to Theresa May and her attempt to make something of the Brexit process. Putting aside her remain bias, her time in the Bank of England cheque clearing division clearly did not expose her to the aggressive negotiating skills needed to deal with European politicians trained under the Charles d'Gaulle 'non' school of diplomacy.

I can well imagine Donald Trump trying to council her. He is a hard nosed businessman which is just what is needed. He says it as it is and at the moment it's a pigs ear of a project. There seems little that can be done now to keep Corbyn out of office so I look forward to 14% mortgage rates, unlimited spending and higher taxes. What our place will be in Europe by then is anybody's guess.

It's interesting that Trump thinks Boris Johnson would make a good Prime Minister and he considers him a friend. You never see them in the same room together do you?

Enough, lets get back into holiday mode. There is a Wallasey wind blowing down the beach this morning so we are on the balcony at the moment. The kite surfers are out in force so it looks a lot like New Brighton but with palm trees.

I played the back nine holes at the Heritage golf club yesterday then hit a few balls on the range. The course was a typical resort layout with generous fairways, a bit of water and well protected greens. The holes were cut so well that only a centrally directed putt found the bottom of the cup. We are eating at the golf club tonight so that should be good.

Last night we ate at the Indian restaurant which was excellent. The resort has gone very quiet as the wedding guests and others left to go home but we are happy to chill with the good food and wine keeping us going.

More golf tomorrow and hopefully Gareth and the boys can clinch the Bronze medal. If we achieve a Bronze at an Olympics people are over the moon, lets hope they see the footballers in a similar light!
